The ancient Atlantean civilization built many of the world’s most spectacular megalithic structures. Not only that, but this race developed wonderful tunnel networks in which to seek sanctuary if required, both from the assault of nature and from the invasions of outer space, in periods when the earth was physically unstable. At least, it was the belief of ufologist William Francis Brinsley Le Poer Trench (1911-1995), 8th Earl of Clancarty, 7th Marquis de Heusden, who published The Secret of the Ages: UFOs from Inside the Earth in 1974, which elaborated on these and other aspects of the Hollow Earth idea.
To begin, he refers to “a massive system of tunnels, hundreds of miles long” that stretches under Ecuador and Peru in his book Le Poer Trench, citing the legendary Erich von Däniken and his Gold of the Gods. Juan Moricz found this network of interconnecting caverns and tunnels in 1965. According to Von Däniken, a tunnel leading to a great hall filled with stone and metal artifacts, including solid gold figurines of various animals. There was also a metal library, which Moricz felt held a history of humanity and facts about a defunct civilization, consisting of metal plates (sheets) with writing in an unknown language.
At the entrance to the unknown subterranean realm, Erich von Dániken meets Juan Moricz, the tunnels’ discoverer. “The tunnels beneath Ecuador and Peru have smooth and frequently seem polished walls,” according to the referenced source, implying that they were not carved with crude instruments, but rather with far more advanced techniques. In the words of Von Daniken: »… If the drill struck particularly hard geological layers, the weapon might demolish them with a few well-aimed rounds. After that, the thermally armored drill would attack the resultant blocks, heating the debris pile to a liquid condition. The liquid rock would harden into diamond-hard enamel as soon as it cooled. The tunnel system would be impenetrable to water, and camera mounts would be unnecessary.’
The Swiss author provided an intriguing idea at the conclusion of El Oro de Los Dioses regarding a particular reason why ancient civilizations like the Atlantean – direct descendants of ancient astronauts – constructed the tunnels. This is separate from the concerns of seismic activity, which Le Poer Trench himself cites as a potential threat.
According to Von Däniken, a cosmic struggle between human-like entities took occurred in ancient тмes. The losers apparently escaped in a spaceship – through the count attributes them to more than one – and sought refuge on Earth, where they were forced to wear “gas masks” in order to withstand and adapt to the new atmosphere – hence the rock art depicting beings with “helmets” and “breathing apparatus” – Out of terror of their pursuers, the author claims that these fugitives “dived deep into the soil and created the tunnel networks,” despite having all of the technical achievements
They then erected transmission stations on the fifth planet of our solar system, which existed between Mars and Jupiter at the time, to further conceal their whereabouts. The adversary is duped by this ploy and believes the signals betrayed the fugitives, so they attack the planet until it is completely destroyed. Debris from the exploding globe scattered over the asteroid belt, which is now known as the asteroid belt. Thousands of asteroids and tiny fragments of stone make up this region. “Planets don’t explode by themselves; they’re triggered!” Däniken expresses his opinion.
In his book, Le Poer Trench adds that, if this actually occurred, the weapons employed in those ancient тмes were much more devastating than those used today, which would explain Zeus’ withering “bolts” and other “gods’ with genuinely destructive skills. Furthermore, he claims that the gravitational perturbations caused by the disappearance of the fifth planet were responsible for the tilting of the Earth’s axis and the worldwide flood reported by so many ancient civilizations.
South American underground tunnels. The nineteenth-century ufologist then references Italian journalist Peter Kolosimo and his book Timeless Earth, in which he claims a system of tunnels that link Lima and Cuzco, and then on to the Bolivian border. These tunnels, according to the Kolosimo, constitute an intriguing archaeological conundrum. “Scholars concur that they were not made by the Incas, who utilized them but did not know where they came from. Indeed, they are so massive that it is not unreasonable to speculate, as some experts have, that they are the product of an undiscovered race of giants,” he adds
In his book Mysteries of Ancient South America, the British Harold T. Wilkins, on the other hand, was most likely referring to the same tunnel system when he stated: «One of the big tunnels’ entrances was, and still is, near the old Cuzco, but it is hidden to avoid being found. This subterranean passage connects directly to a massive “subway” that runs in a straight line from Cuzco to Lima, a distance of 380 miles! Then, going south, the huge tunnel stretches for nearly 900 kilometers into what was modern Bolivia until around 1868!
Wilkins also mentioned additional tunnels in the Caribbean: «When Christopher Columbus visited Martinique in the West Indies, he was intrigued by strange tunnels of extraordinary age and unknown origin. True, the Atlantean white race erected magnificent cities on what are now West Indian islands, but which may have formerly been part of the now-submerged American continent whose name is perpetuated in the term “Antilles.” On the day when the land bridge between the submerged land and Africa on the one hand, and ancient Brazil on the other, existed, old Atlantis had a network of tunnels and labyrinthine corridors that extended in all directions, according to an odd old-world Asian custom. The tunnels were utilized by necromantic and black magic groups in Atlantis.
For his part, Kolosimo pointed out that tunnel systems may be found all over the planet. He mentioned California, Virginia, Hawaii, Oceania, and Asia in addition to South America. Tunnels may be found in Sweden, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia in Europe, as well as the Balearic Islands and Malta in the Mediterranean. “A big tunnel runs between Spain and Morocco, and мy think that this is how the ‘Barbary monkeys,’ otherwise unknown in Europe, arrived to Gibraltar,” he wrote to the Italian. “It’s even been hypothesized that these cyclopean galleries constitute a network that connects the world’s most remote regions.”
Agartha Wilkins has further information regarding the ancient tunnel systems to share with us: “Even now, there are legends about tunnels and subterranean planets among Inner Mongolian tribes that seem as fascinating as anything in contemporary fiction.” According to folklore – assuming that’s all there is to it! – the tunnels lead to an ancient underworld someplace in Afghanistan or the Hindu Kush area.
